What to Expect During Your Stay

What to Expect During Your Stay

Descriptive image text

These bungalows were said to reside on Egmont Key and eventually transported by barge to its current location on Anna Maria Island in 1935. Rumored to be former army barracks these uniquely charming and original beachside bungalows are nestled directly in the sand. So when you wake up, pour your first cup of coffee and step out of your bungalow, you will most likely be stepping directly onto the beach.

Bungalow Beach Resort is a collection of quaint accommodations with small private bathrooms, and kitchens varying in size, from kitchenettes to full size kitchens depending on the bungalow. As a beachfront property you should expect weathered decks, and wood floors/sliding glass doors that have adjusted and settled over time due to being directly on the sandy beach. Nearly all the bungalows have been retro fitted with window A/C units.

These classic buildings are increasingly becoming more rare as the years pass. It is only a matter of time before our cozy little wooden cottages will someday be destroyed by a hurricane or other natural weather event. These buildings have been spared for close to a century, but when that fateful day comes there will be one less “Old Florida” beachfront hotel in the world. They cannot be replicated/rebuilt in the same way. They will be required to be built up and out of the sand approximately 15 feet. As caretakers, keeping the “Old Florida” style alive by consistently repairing, replacing, painting, and carefully updating without disturbing the vintage feel of the cottages, is a balancing act that requires many hats. Meanwhile, we will continue to love on this beachfront hotel as long as we are allowed, as our focus is to extend a delightful get-a-away to new and returning guests

Basic Amenities in the Bungalows

In Room Experience

Bedding: Most bungalows are setup and designed for two people using a single Queen or King sized bed with fresh linens.

Bathrooms: Many of the bathrooms can be quite small, for instance all the pool side bungalows have very small bathroom/showers. However, we have several bungalows that have bathtubs that are significantly larger. Each bathroom will have towels, soap, shampoo and hairdryers.

Kitchen: Each bungalow comes with a minimum of standard drip coffee pot, microwave, toaster & mini fridge along with the expected dishes/flatware/glassware associated with the size kitchen. There are bungalows with full kitchens complete with an oven/range and full refrigerator.

Air Conditioner: The AC will most likely be a window unit air conditioner that will keep the bungalow cool, but also will hum as it runs. During the winter months it runs much less, but in the summer expect it to be humming along all day and most of the night.  We do have two bungalows with central AC: #116 Mermaid & #115 Catamaran.

TV: TV’s are generally small and connected WiFi that provides various streaming apps like YoutubeTV and AmazonPrime. While the WiFi is pretty decent, we are a barrier island and can endure intermittent outages at times. Please bear in mind, we are the kind of place to unplug, not plug in.

Gulf View: Many of our bungalows have spectacular gulf front views and even the ones without a view are still on the beach side, very close to the water. The only exception would be #115 Catamaran across the street.

On Site

Deck Chairs: The large wooden deck chairs out on the beach front are hand built and maintained. They include adjustable backs, fabric cushions and fixed umbrellas. All available on a first come first serve basis.

Beach Chair/Umbrella Rental: Additionally, we have a limited number of portable (wood/canvas) beach chairs/umbrellas to rent.

Swimming Pool: A small 20’x10’ dipping pool perfect for relaxing after a beach day is onsite and is heated to 88 degrees when the weather cools.
(Open from  9am - Sunset.)

Fire Pit/BBQ Grills: The courtyard contains a communal firepit where guests become friends and two charcoal grills, with some utensils. Guest supplies their own firewood and charcoal. Quiet hours from 10pm – 8am

Courtyard Table: This large concrete table is a great spot for lunch or playing a game with the oversized chessmen and checkers available to check out at the front desk.

Ice Machine: Ice is always on hand near the swimming pool. 24 hrs a day.

Parking: We have just enough parking for each bungalow to park one car. Parking passes are given out at the front desk at check-in.

Golf Carts: If renting a golf cart from a local vendor such as Beach Bums or Beach Fun, please note that charging is limited.
