As we move forward through this process we will be posting updates here and through our social media platforms on our progress.

“Old Florida with Modern Durability”

The design keeps our classic "Old Florida" charm woven into the new construction which still sits directly on the sand in front of the Gulf. There is more to this design than just recalling features from the original bungalows. A fresh start means a lot of improvements such as modern air conditioning systems, more gulf front bungalows, a secluded pool with tropical landscaping as well as larger rooms/bathrooms than before. The gulf fronts are based on the original #104 Hibiscus & #105 Seagull Bungalows.

The Architect

Led by Architect John Garra, Square One has been working together with the Bungalow Beach team to create the new resort. All while keeping in mind the "Old Florida" charm that made the original bungalows so special. We cannot speak highly enough about John and the Square One group.

Updates

01/08/25: We are pleased to announce that the city has approved our Major Development Plan, a significant milestone following the Hurricanes. We have strived to keep in place our "Old Florida Charm" to every extent possible while complying with modern building codes. Our next meeting is with the City Commssion on Feb 5th.

10/07/25: During the planning process we discovered a better way to build and layout the new building which incurred some delays. The upside is we have a much better overall design which maximizes all available views. There are 15 new bungalows, 14 of them have unobstructed views of the Gulf, of which, 10 are right out in front. We will also have more beach space for an increased number of deck chairs and a small event deck in the center of the building. This new design is practically complete, when the details are finished we will begin showcasing it.

05/03/25: Plans have been submitted, we think we have our builder in place and we are working with the city on permitting. Everything looks positive so far. Optimistic we will begin building late summer/early fall. Once final permits are approved we will share the floorplans for each bungalow type and create some renderings.

Specific Details

How long until the new building is complete?
In short, the answer is there is no way of knowing that just yet, but we do have a good idea. How long it will take to actually build is the real question. A reasonable window would be sometime in mid 2027. Our intention is to be ready and open to guests by the 2027 season and we are working towards that diligently every day. We will post updates on our website.

Will it still feel like Bungalow Beach Resort?
For the most part, Yes! While the building will be brand new, we are taking steps to incorporate the original style as well as keeping actual pieces of the bungalows to be used in various places as decor. As we move along through the design process we will post conceptual renderings and eventually photographs of what the new bungalows will look like. 201 Sandpiper and 301 Pelican are examples of our modern take on the bungalows.

How many new bungalows will there be?
There will be 15 new bungalows, all studio style with one king bed and a private porch. 10 full gulf fronts, 4 that will have a great straight on view but will have a building to the left and right and 1 more centrally located that will not have a view. Many of them will have kitchenettes and sleeper sofas.

Will there be a pool?
Yes, we will have a larger pool than before which we hope to re-create some of our old "courtyard vibe", using lush tropical landscaping to make it cozy and special.
