Old Florida Charm

Bungalow Beach Resort is nestled amongst the white sand dunes, sea oats, and swaying coconut palms of Bradenton Beach, which is one of 3 beaches on Anna Maria Island in Florida, overlooking the warm water, white sand, and gentle surf of the Gulf of Mexico.

The buildings are rumored to be former army barracks, today each of the 15 charming cedar bungalows have been transformed into a romantic getaway preserving the1930’s clapboard construction and old Florida island charm. Each bungalow is unique and graciously restored, preserving its historic classic island style with a clean crisp palette and cottage-chic decor. Many bungalows retain the original architectural design of hardwood floors, bead-board walls, and wood-beamed cathedral ceilings.

The grounds lush landscaping feature over 30 different exotic palms and tropical flowers and our quaint sparkling heated pool is the perfect way to close out a relaxing and memorable day on the beach.

Gayle Luper black and white portrait

When Gayle Luper (a former insurance executive) purchased the resort in the late 1990’s she was seeking a business that would afford her a proper work life balance. A vintage beach resort was the perfect fit to reconnect with her past and create a business that strengthend her family bonds and her faith allowing her children to be nearby.

With a successful small family-owned and operated business under her belt, Gayle was able to put some of her energy and focus on supporting over 35 community organizations from Meals on Wheels, American Cancer Society, local schools, churches, and even red tide research.
Gayle was instrumental in creating a tropical Caribbean environment full of exotic foliage. Her vision of surrounding guests in privacy can be realized in the courtyard and lounging areas.

“We wanted to create a special getaway that embraces and preserves the spirit of the island and it’s “old Florida” roots by transporting our guests from their daily routine to a relaxing state-of-mind with what feels like a private island retreat.”
