- May 30, 2001 BUNGALOW BEACH RESORT RECEIVES BEAUTIFCATION
AWARD ANNA MARIA ISLAND -- Bungalow Beach Resort has long been known
for its lush grounds and beautiful tropical atmosphere. Now that
reputation has been officially recognized as the resort received
a "Landscape Beautification" award from the Island Garden Club on
April 19.
The award is presented on an annual basis to one commercial and
one residential property from each of the island's three cities.
Bungalow Beach Resort was chosen to represent Bradenton Beach.
Owners Bert and Gayle Luper were especially pleased with the award
since they had recently added a substantial amount of landscaping
to their property. The Lupers designed the plans themselves and
did extensive research to select the most salt-tolerant and drought-resistant
species wherever possible.
The grounds at Bungalow Beach Resort feature more than 30 different
types of tropical plants, trees and flowers, including hibiscus,
beach daisies, coconut palms, sea oats, petite oleanders, cocoplums,
firecracker plants, and many varieties of flowering annuals. The
Lupers' son Jason, who attended Ringling School of Art and Design,
created a painting on individual plaques to allow guests to study
and identify each type of plant.
Bungalow Beach Resort was originally built in the 1930s and, through
careful maintenance, retains the classic charm of that bygone era.
A wide range of accommodations provides ample space for any group
or family. Choose from a quaint pool-side studio, courtyard one-two
and three bedroom bungalows, a deluxe gulf-front studio or the spacious
Island House suite. All rooms include a private deck or screened
porch and are tastefully appointed with floral and wicker accents
to compliment the island atmosphere.
